What is the Studio?

The UTC Library Studio (3rd Floor) is a workspace for innovative technology and media creation. Produce a documentary, prototype your invention, digitize that old box of slides, and everything in between. We have 24 workstations loaded with specialized software, audio, and video equipment that can be checked out for class and personal use, and dedicated spaces to make your dream projects a reality. We also have faculty and staff to help you get started regardless of your experience level.

The Library Studio has both first-come, first-served and reserved equipment. Equipment typically checks out for 3-days at a time, but some pieces, such as the synths and midis, may have a longer checkout period.

First-Come, First-Served Equipment

First-come, first-served equipment is non-reservable equipment you can pick up anytime during our open hours. As these are first-come, first-served with limited availability, we recommend calling ahead to ensure it is currently available.

Reserved Equipment

For those who prefer to plan ahead, we also offer equipment that can be reserved through the Studio's website. If you need help making a reservation, you can call the Studio service desk or come in to ask for help. When you're ready to pick up your reservation, simply come to the Studio's service desk (Library 305) and tell us that you are picking up some equipment. Be sure to bring your Mocs ID, the GET mobile app, or some other physical, government-issued identification. We cannot accept photos of your ID on your phone or computer. Also, if you do not pick up the equipment on the first day of your reservation period, your reservation will be deleted when the Studio closes.

Mini HD Camera

The Mini HD camera is great for beginners who want to explore videography without jumping straight into our larger, more complicated kits. This camera shoots in HD, not 4K. You cannot reserve these camera kits in advance. Instead, you will need to come to the Studio desk and ask for one. 

UHD Camera (Canon XA-60)

The UHD camera is a step above the Mini HD in size and complexity. This kit comes with an external microphone and many more features to help you get the audio and video quality you want. This camera shoots in HD, UHD, and 4K. You can either reserve one ahead of time or just come to the Studio desk and ask for one.

Cinema Camera (JVC GY-LS300)

The Cinema camera is a specialty camera that can create a more "cinematic" effect. If you've ever watched a scene where the camera focuses between two characters (one close to the camera and one far away), that is the effect you will get with this camera. If you want auto-focus throughout your video, this is not the camera for you. This camera can shoot in HD and 4K. You can reserve one here. 

GoPro Hero 9

The GoPro Kit is our recommendation if you want to capture action shots. This kit comes with a media mod to capture higher-quality audio, a waterproof case (you will have to remove the media mod for this), and a hand-held tripod. If you want a hands-free recording experience, chest mounts and head mounts are also available upon request. This camera can shoot in HD and 4K. You can reserve one here or ask for one at the Studio's service desk.

DJI Osmo Pocket

Like the GoPro, the Osmo is best suited for filming videos that involve movement. The Osmo is positioned on its own gimbal, which helps stabilize your video as you move around. This camera can shoot in HD and 4K. You can reserve one here or ask for one at the Studio's service desk.

Insta360 X3

The Insta360 X3 is a 360-degree camera that can be used to take your videography to a new level. You cannot reserve these camera kits in advance. Instead, you will need to come to the Studio desk and ask for one.

* This kit comes with a selfie stick, but tripods are available upon request.

** Insta360 Studio is needed to edit the footage from this camera. The software is available in the Studio.

Compact Camera (Lumix G100D)

The Compact Camera is the perfect camera if you are looking for something lightweight, that can take both photos and videos or if you want to learn the basics of manual photography without the intimidation of the advanced settings that a typical DSLR has. This camera can shoot in HD and 4K. You can either reserve one ahead of time or just come to the Studio desk and ask for one. 

Hybrid Camera (Lumix GH6)

The Hybrid camera is a great multi-functional camera that allows the user to take various photos and videos with interchangeable lenses in both automatic and manual modes. This kit comes with two lenses, but more are available upon request.  This camera can shoot in HD and 4K. You can either reserve one ahead of time or just come to the Studio desk and ask for one.

Accessory Camera Lenses

Specialty lenses are available for both the Cinema and Hybrid kits. For a full list of the lenses, please visit the Camera Accessories page on the Studio's website. The lenses cannot be reserved in advance. Please call or drop by the Studio to ask if the lens you want is available.

DJI Osmo Mobile 6

This item is perfect if you want to film using your phone without worrying too much about shakey video, this is what we recommend. This kit requires the DJI app to use. This item is first-come, first-served and cannot be reserved in advance. Please call or come to the Studio's service desk to ask if it is available.

External Video Microphone

If you want to boost the audio quality of your video on the Mini HD or Hybrid Camera, this is the microphone for you! Simply attach the microphone to a shoe mount for the Mini HD or the top of a Hybrid Camera and insert the microphone's cable into the camera's mic input to begin picking up sound. You can't make a reservation for this item. Just come to the Studio service desk and ask.

Mobile Phone Tripod Attachment

If you want to use your phone to record a video and need something simple to keep it in place, we recommend checking out this mobile phone attachment with one of our standard or tabletop tripods. This attachment has a grip that can swivel to allow filming in both portrait and landscape mode. We have two sizes: one for smaller phone models and one for larger phones.

This item cannot be reserved ahead of time. Please come to the Studio's service desk and ask if we have one available.

Mobile Vlogging Kit

This kit is best suited for those who want to focus on vlogging. The kit comes with a tripod, phone grip, mini LED light, colored filters for the LED light, and a microphone that can attach directly to your phone (you may need to remove your phone case to allow the microphone to successfully connect). This kit is available for both iOS and Android. Please let us know what type of phone you have so we can give you the correct kit. You can reserve a kit ahead of time for an iOS device or a device with a USB-C port or just come to the Studio desk and ask for one.

Rode Wireless Go II

The Wireless Go mics are great for getting action sound where you can't be across the table from your subject. They plug into any camera or phone (adapter may be needed), and also record directly into the receiver. You can reserve one here.

Tripods

If you want to stabilize the camera so you don't get shaky footage, make sure you check out a tripod. We have both floating and flat-head tripods. Floating-head tripods allow you to shoot in portrait and landscape modes. The flat-head tripods only allow recording in landscape mode. If you are recording video, we recommend the flat-head tripod. If you are taking photos, we recommend the floating-head tripod. You can't make a reservation for this item. Just come to the Studio service desk and ask.

Tripod Arm

This piece of equipment is a tripod attachment. If you need a wider recording range or need to record something from a top-down view, this piece of equipment can help you with that. You can't make a reservation for this item. Just come to the Studio service desk and ask.

Ronin Gimbal

This piece of equipment is a tripod attachment. If you need a wider recording range or need to record something from a top-down view, this piece of equipment can help you with that. You can't make a reservation for this item. Just come to the Studio service desk and ask.

3-Point iKan Lighting Kit

If you're looking for more advanced lighting than the ring light can provide, the 3-point iKan Light Kit may work better for your project. With this kit, you have more control over light and shadows to create the specific mood you're going for. You can either reserve one ahead of time or just come to the Studio desk and ask for one.

Photography Lightbox

If you want to take photos of small items such as crafting projects, your latest portfolio piece, or items for a product launch, this lightbox will help your photos look more professional. This kit comes with white, black, gray, peach, and light blue backgrounds. This kit is not available to reserve in advance. Please call or drop by the Studio to ask if one is available.

LED Light Stick

This LED light stick comes with 2 sides: one that has a cool to warm range and one that ranges throughout the color spectrum. It also has multiple lighting modes such as campfire, fireworks, and a mode that syncs up with sound to help create the lighting atmosphere you want. These are not available to reserve in advance. Please call or drop by the Studio to ask if one is available.

LED Hybrid Camera Light

This camera light attachment can provide extra light while filming. It has manual switches to turn off, on, and change the intensity of the light. It does not flash or act as a strobe light. Please come to the Studio desk and ask if one is available.

Light Tracing Pad

This kit comes with a charging cable and carrying case.You can't make a reservation for this item. Just come to the Studio service desk and ask.

Portable Green Screen

Whether you want a background for your stream or want to replace your Zoom background to make your friends believe you're on a relaxing trip at the beach, our portable green screen can help! You can either reserve one ahead of time or just come to the Studio desk and ask for one. 

Pop-Up Photo Background

If you're looking for a more professional background for professional headshots or product photos, our pop-up photo background can help! This photo background is black on one side and white on the other. You can either reserve one ahead of time or just come to the Studio desk and ask for one.

Ring Light

If you're looking for lighting that is simple to use, give the ring light a try! This item has the ability to cast both cool and warm light on whatever you're filming. You can either reserve one ahead of time or just come to the Studio desk and ask for one. 

Studio in a Box

If you're not quite sure what you want to do or you want multiple backgrounds for your grand idea, check out the Studio in a Box. This kit comes with a black/white pop-up background, a pop-up green screen, and a ring light. Make sure you reserve this kit in advance as we only have one kit available.

Blue Yeti Mic

The Yeti is a desktop USB mic that simply needs to be plugged into your computer to use. It's perfect if you have a quiet room set up and just want to talk into a mic. You can either reserve one ahead of time or just come to the Studio desk and ask for one. 

Condenser Mics

These are perfect if you have a little more experience, and are looking for that something special. You can either reserve one ahead of time or just come to the Studio desk and ask for one. The Rode Condenser mic has an XLR output, so you willneed an audio interface, Zoom H6, or Rodecaster to use it.

Rodecaster Pro

An audio interface and microphone designed specifically for Podcasting. The interface includes 4 mic preamps, 8 faders, 8 programmable pads, USB to Host connection, and Bluetooth capability. You can reserve one here. 

Zoom H1

The Zoom H1 is a one-button, portable recorder that's great for interviews on the go. It can also be used as a USB mic if one of the Yetis isn't available. And, yes, it comes with that nifty tripod. You can't make a reservation for an H1. Just come and ask at the desk.

Zoom H6

The Zoom H6 is the H1's big sibling. It comes with three interchangeable mic capsules (omnidirectional, mid-side, and shotgun), but it has extra ports you can connect XLR or 1/4" cables to. It's great for capturing interviews on the go or recording your band in your living room. You can reserve one here. 

Audio Interface

This audio interface has two XLR inputs to record vocals or instruments directly into audio editing software. Because of the two inputs, it allows for simultaneous recording. This item is not available to reserve in advance. Please ask if it is available at the Studio service desk.

Mood MKII

The Mood MKII is a two-channel multi-effect pedal. One half samples and loops and the other is a suite of real-time spatial effects. The two channels are aware of each other and work together. You can process the micro-loops with the spatial effects or record those effects into the loops.

Strymon Big Sky

The Strymon Big Sky reverb pedal is MIDI-compatible and comes with 300 built-in presets. This item is not available to reserve in advance. Please ask if it is available at the Studio service desk.

Strymon Iridium

The Strymon Iridium is an amp & IR Cab pedal with three different amp types, each with three different speaker cabinet options that compliment the tonality of the amp. Includes: Three Iconic Amplifiers, Nine Stereo IR Cabinets, and Adjustable Room Ambience settings. 

Strymon Timeline

The Strymon Timeline delay pedal is MIDI-compatible and comes with 200 built-in presets. This item is not available to reserve in advance. Please ask if it is available at the Studio service desk.

APC40

The APC40 includes a 40-pad clip-launch matrix with RGB feedback for clip status, color coding, and more. It has 8 channel faders, 1 master fader, and 8 device controls to map directly to Ableton Live. Midi Controllers are not able to be reserved ahead of time. You must as if they are available at the Studio service desk.

Arturia Drumbrute

The Arturia Drumbrute is an analog drum machine with 17 drum sounds. It stores up to 64 patterns (up to 64 steps each), and it has 12 individual audio outputs to make it easy to record your patterns as multitrack audio. This item is not available to reserve in advance. Please ask if it is available at the Studio service desk.

Arturia Keystep

This easy-to-use midi controller is a 32-key keyboard that offers velocity and aftertouch controls. It has a built-in arpeggiator and sequencer. It has a vast array of connections, making it a great addition to any set-up. Midi Controllers are not able to be reserved ahead of time. You must as if they are available at the Studio service desk.

Arturia Microbrute

The Arturia Microbrute is a 3-waveform voltage-controlled oscillator with Saw, Triangle, and Square waves. It is a simple, yet powerful sequencer. Midi Controllers are not able to be reserved ahead of time. You must as if they are available at the Studio service desk.

Arturia Microfreak

The Arturia Microfreak is a hybrid synthesizer with 128 built-in sound presents, a digital oscillator with variable mode, an analog state variable filter, LFO,  Envelope and Cycling Envelope, a 25-note PCB "keyboard," Transpose buttons, Arpeggiator/Sequencer, Assignable Mod Matrix, OLED Screen, CV/Gate connection, and PSU & USB Power.

Akai MPK25

The Akai MPK25 is a 25-key, 12-pad, 12-knob USB MIDI keyboard controller. This item is plug-and-play via its included USB cable. Midi Controllers are not able to be reserved ahead of time. You must as if they are available at the Studio service desk.

Dave Smith Mopho x4

The Dave Smith Mopho x4 is a large analog synthesizer with MIDI functionality. It has 44 semi-weighted keys with an aftertouch. It also contains four voices, each with two analog oscillators and two sub-octave generators. Each voice has three 5-stage envelope generators and four LFOs. Midi Controllers cannot be reserved ahead of time. You must ask if they are available at the Studio service desk.

Korg Minilogue

The Korg Minilogue is a powerful four-voice synthesizer with an oscilloscope function that shows the waveform visually. It also features an arpeggiator and a 16-step sequencer. This item is not available to reserve in advance. Please ask if it is available at the Studio service desk.

Roland TR-09 and TB-03

These are a compact re-creation of Roland's classic step-based synthesizers. They are highly portable and include a built-in speaker. This item is not available to reserve in advance. Please ask if it is available at the Studio service desk.

QuNexus

The QuNexus has 25 smart, pressure-sensitive keys that can detect pressure, velocity, and tilt with Polyphonic Aftertouch. This item is plug-and-play using its included USB cable. Midi Controllers are not able to be reserved ahead of time. You must as if they are available at the Studio service desk.

Zoom R20

The Zoom R20 is a 16-track multitrack recorder, editor, and mixing workstation with an LCD touchscreen and 8 XLR channels with 2 housing line inputs. It is MIDI-connectable and includes 150 built-in rhythm patterns. You cannot reserve this item in advance. Please call or drop by the Studio to ask if it is available.

Pico Projector

This small, lightweight projector is great for group study sessions or movie nights. If you plan to check out a projector screen with this projector, we recommend our small projector screen. These projectors are not available to be reserved in advance. Please ask us if there is one available at the Studio service desk.

Medium-Sized Projector

This projector is great for events such as a presentation, a movie night with a large group of people, or projecting images to trace on large items such as a wall or banner. You can either reserve one ahead of time or just come to the Studio desk and ask for one.

Large Projector

This projector is a little larger than the medium projector. If you check out this projector, we recommend checking out the large projector screen with it. You can either reserve one ahead of time or just come to the Studio desk and ask for one.

Medium Projector Screen (Da-Lite 36" x 74")

This projector screen is recommended to be used with Medium or Large Projectors. You must reserve one ahead of time.

Large Projector Screen (Da-Lite 44" x 74")

This projector screen is recommended to be used with the Large Projector. You must reserve one ahead of time.

Logitech Wireless Presenter

This wireless presenter is the perfect companion for presentations and workshops. It connects to your computer via a USB port, and it comes with a built-in laser pointer and slid clicker. You cannot reserve this item in advance. Please call or drop by the Studio to ask if we have one available.

Event Speaker (JBL Eon One)

This speaker is the perfect addition to your next event. It has a 6-channel mixer, an XLR and a 1/4" input, and can connect to Bluetooth devices. If you check this speaker out, we also recommend checking out a hand cart as well. Please reserve this item in advance.

Wireless Microphone Kit (x1 Handheld, x1 Lavalier)

This mic kit is perfect to use with the Event Speaker. It comes with one handheld microphone, one lavalier microphone, and a base receiver that will be connected to an audio system via an XLR cable. Hand Cart

Sometimes it's difficult to carry all of the amazing equipment you just checked out from the Studio. If you need a little help, this hand cart that can hold up to 350 lbs (158 kg) will help solve that problem! Please reserve one in advance if you know you will need it. We highly recommend reserving one if you are checking out an event speaker.

Power Box

This kit comes with a power strip and a 15-foot extension cord, making it a must-have for any outdoor event. You cannot reserve this item in advance. Please call or drop by the Studio to ask if we have one available.

FlashFish Portable Generator

If you are planning an outdoor event, a weekend trip, or have a power outage, this portable generator will save you the headache of worrying about your electronics dying. This generator comes with 2 AC 200W outlets, 2 DC 12V/10A (Max) outputs, and 3 USB ports (2 QC). You cannot reserve this item in advance. Please call or drop by the Studio to ask if we have one available.
